Hepatitis B Vaccination
A message for families with children aged 8-14
Dr. Gregory La Hood, 26 November 2000

At present the Dept. Of Health is advising all Australian children aged around 10 years to be immunised for Hepatitis B.

The vaccine has been made available 'free of charge' and is presently stocked at the surgery.

Full immunisation consists of three injections over 6 months.

Hepatitis B is a viral infection that can cause severe liver damage. There is no cure for this virus. The number of people with Hepatitis B is increasing in Australia. The virus can be transmitted by close physical contact or exchange of bodily fluids.

The immunisation is well tolerated.

Please discuss this important issue with the doctor.
